OVER 20million fans switched off the FIFA World Cup on Saturday – as England suffered defeat against Belgium in the bronze medal play-off.
Just 9.8million viewers watched the game which saw Gareth Southgate’s team come fourth overall in the tournament after being beaten by Belgium 2-0.
The audience for the match was made up of 8.4million watching on ITV and another 1.5million who used its online service ITV Hub.
It comes after 30.9million watched Harry Kane and his men suffer heartbreak against Croatia in the semi-final last Wednesday.
The figure was a record TV audience for a single channel.
Only the 1966 World Cup final and Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997 were watched by more people but they were both shown on BBC and ITV.
